CBSE Class 10 English Practice Extra Quiz 2023 Abschnitt A
Section A: READING SKILLS (20 points)
I have read the passage given below. 10
Pass 1:History in general remains an attempt to seek the truth about the past in a contemporary light. The search is carried out by examining the treasure trove of a documented past. This also applies to the history of food. Cookbooks have always played a key role in exploring the history of any community. The roots of recording food histories are almost as old as the history of writing itself. In the east, Meng Shen of the T'ang dynasty recorded the origin and uses of all foods consumed at court. In India, mythology mentions that the first and oldest cookbook is Pakadarpanam (The Mirror of Culinary Arts) written by King Nala.
pass 2: Cookbooks are a guide that can take one on a journey of understanding traditions and culture. In the past, cookbooks were also used in science as a source of information to understand not only social or gender-specific roles, but also material factors such as trade and networking.
pass 3: So what could you call a cookbook in our modern society? Recently, it can be observed that the number of infotainment programs and food documentaries is increasing. Recipes are no longer just cookbooks. In fact, a new generation of Indian culinary experts is cooking their way to stardom. And they do it through social media. By demystifying Indian cuisine and providing step-by-step instructions on how to prepare delicious Indian dishes, these talented men and women are inspiring many Indians to pick up their mussels and experiment with different recipes in their own kitchens.
Gang 4: Social media chefs are here to stay. A hobby home cook no longer has to struggle to understand exactly what the recipe instructions mean when it says "dough should have a pourable consistency". Now the chef can be seen demonstrating on video how exactly the “casting consistency” should look like.
pass 5: Many people have used these recipes, readily available on social media, to get through the COVID-19 pandemic. Cooking, considered a necessity in the early days of the COVID-19 lockdown, has become a leisure activity over time. It also functioned as a tool to improve people's psychological well-being. It gave them a goal-oriented behavior to engage with as well as a way to connect.
with others sharing recipes or posting photos of their creations on social media. So documenting recipes online is the modern version of cookbook writing.
Glossary:Contemporary – happening in the present

Instead, various factors such as For example, how fun or challenging a game is or whether you can play it with friends are also important determinants of whether a game is addictive or just engaging.
Passage 2: A study examined the reasons for smartphone gaming addiction. This was done by looking at match reports. Game ratings were collected in an app store in different categories.
