While most games still have predominantly male protagonists, the RPG genre is one of the few genres to have had a relatively large number of amazing female protagonists since the 1990s. Along with horror franchises like Resident Evil or visual novel franchises like Ace Attorney, RPGs tend to have some of the most memorable and memorable female characters in video games.

With so many famous women appearing in so many classic RPG titles and series like Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem, it's hard to single out just a few examples. But there are a few characters that stand out from the rest.
Amaterasu-Ōkami
Considered one of the greatest games of all time, Ōkamii is an action-adventure game with a beautiful sumi-e inspired art style that focuses on Japanese mythology and folklore. The game is set in historical Japan and follows the sun goddess Amaterasu.who takes the animal form of a white wolfwhile saving the world from demons with the power of Heavenly Brush.
Amaterasu is not only a powerful goddess, but also a great hero because she is kind and steadfast at the same time. Although she is always ready to help others, she is not afraid to express her opinion and feelings. For example, Amaterasu falls asleep during boring conversations and shows displeasure when characters say or do things she doesn't like.
Koudelka Iasant - Koudelka
Created by Hiroki Kikuta, who previously worked as composer for the Manase series, Koudelkai is a survival horror RPG and the first entry in the Shadow Hearts series. The action takes place in 1898 in Aberystwyth, Wales. The main character, a young Roma girl named Koudelka Iasant, endowed with clairvoyance, finds herself in the Nemeton monastery after being led there by a ghost. In an attempt to uncover the dark secrets of this place, he teams up with adventurer Edward Plunkett and Bishop James O'Flaherty.
Due to her psychic powers, Koudelka was banished from her Roma village as a child and spent most of her life barely surviving on her own. This difficulty has led her to develop a cynical attitude, which is evident early in the game when she immediately pulls out a knife when she first meets Edward, or when she suspects that the convent guards have poisoned her food. Maya Amano - Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

Luckily, former Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi left Konami to create his own spiritual successor called The Bloodstained Series. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was released in 2019 as the second part of the new series and follows a young woman named Miriam who must stop an army of demons.

She is never afraid to get herself into dangerous situations and is smart enough to notice small details and defend herself against the misguided arguments of her enemies.
Rot – Tranzystor
Transistors was developed by the independent studio Supergiant Games, which also created other critically acclaimed titles such as Hades, Pyre and Bastion. It is an action role-playing game that follows a young woman named Red as she travels through the city of Cloudbank, fighting a robot named Process with her lightsaber named Transistor. After a group called the Camerata tries to kill Red but kills her lover instead, Red loses her voice and goes on a journey to find out why she was targeted.

Prinzessin Eirika – Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones
Often regarded as one of the best games in the entire Fire Emblem series, the 2004 tactical JRPG Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones was released for the Game Boy Advance as the third and final sequel to Fire Emblem. The game is about two twins, Princess Eirice and Prince Ephraim, who try to stop the Grado Empire from invading other nations and destroying the sacred stones.
Unlike her more open and impulsive brother, Eirika dislikes violence and has a much more sober mind. Although he wants everything to be resolved peacefully, he adapts to circumstances and leads his troops effectively, but he is always looking for ways to be merciful and forgiving.
Aya Brea - Parasite of Eva
Developed as a sequel to the sci-fi horror of the same name, Parasite Eve is a 1998 JRPG action horror game for PS1 that spawned two sequels.The original game takes place during the Christmas seasonand follows the main character, New York police officer Aya Brea, as she tries to stop a woman, Eve, who wants to annihilate humanity by awakening the mitochondria in their bodies.

Nula – Drakengard 3
Released for PS3 in 2013, Drakengard 3 is the final game in the Drakengard series and a prequel to the original Drakengard which led to the spin-off of the Nier series. The game follows a woman named Zero and her dragon partner Mikhail as they attempt to kill her five sisters in multiple different timelines.

The 2016 action-adventure game Dishonored 2 takes place 15 years after the legendary first game and follows former Empress Emily Kaldwin or her father Corv Attan as they attempt to reclaim the throne from the witch Delilah Copperspoon. While Corvo was the protagonist of the first game, Emily is the canonical protagonist of this sequel.
After a turbulent youth, Emily is now a strong and ambitious woman who fights for justice. With a wide range of skills and a sharp intellect, she is able to take down most enemies with ease, but can also be impulsive. Terra Branford – Final Fantasy VI
Set in a setting reminiscent of steampunk rather than medieval fantasy, 1994's SNES JRPGF Final Fantasy VI marked a major turning point for the series. The game follows 14 continuously playable characters as they try to stop the evil Empire from rediscovering magic and destroying the world.
At the beginning, the player meets the first main character, a young woman named Terra Branford. Due to her strange magical powers, she was enslaved by the Empire until a revolutionary organization, the Returners, managed to take the "crown of slavery" from her. While having fun, he learns to accept his abilities and gains the courage to protect others.
